Diakonhjemmet hospital is an ideal, non-profit corporation owned by the Diakonhjemmet Foundation. The hospital is responsible for general hospital services for approximately 150 000 inhabitants in particular sectors of the western part of Oslo, within the fields of internal medicine, surgery, mental health and radiology, as well as laboratory services. In addition, the hospital is responsible for treating older people with hip fractures from a larger area of Oslo.

The hospital is also responsible for psychiatric care within its sector, and for geriatric psychiatry towards a large sector of Oslo. All treatment is given within the frames of the official health services in Oslo, and based on an agreement with the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority (Helse Sør-Øst). *Center for Psychopharmacology (SFP) is the only national center of expertise in therapeutic drug monitoring and pharmacogenetic analysis, and research in psychopharmacology and biological psychiatry. SFP has an accreditation from the NA (Norwegian Accreditation).​

Diakonhjemmet hospital specializes in the fields of rheumatology and rheumatic surgery. It is the referral hospital for the Oslo area and the regional hospital for Southeastern Norway for health services in the fields of rheumatology and rheumatic surgery.​​

Patient advisors

Patient advisors are nurses with experience from the specialist health service. You can get individual advice about choosing a treatment center and about your rights. The patient advisors are bound by confidentiality. Call your local patient advisor: +47 24 24 05 00.

The GP is the patient's most important adviser when choosing a place of treatment. As referring doctor, you should, in collaboration with the patient, examine waiting times at various treatment centres.

Two nationwide services are provided from the Department of Rheumatology:

National Advisory Unit on Rehabilitation in Rheumatology (NKRR)

Norwegian National Unit for Rehabilitation for Rheumatic Patients with Special Needs (NBRR)

NBRR has an accreditation from CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities).

​All r​equests conserning treatment in the hospital must be handled by your family doctor/general practitioner, who will send a referral to the hospital according to current guidelines.

If you believe that you have suffered financial loss as a result of an injury caused by inadequate treatment from the healthcare system, you can contact Norwegian Patient Injury Compensation (npe.no).
